Tim Sparks Named Head Men's Basketball Coach

Tim Sparks Named Head Men's Basketball Coach

Michael W. Allen, Director of Athletics states, "Tim Sparks is a man of integrity, he's a people person and he has bought in to our mission and vision here at The Apprentice School. During his two years as our top assistant coach, he has supported our department's mission of leadership development. In keeping with our purpose and culture of 'The Builder Way', the smoothest transition for our department and our young men was to elevate Tim to the head chair. This allowed us to keep continuity by promoting from within and also give Tim his shot at his own leadership development. We are extremely excited to welcome Coach Sparks as our new Men's Basketball Coach."

Tim Sparks enters his first year with the Builders as Head Men's Basketball Coach after serving two years as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. Sparks was the Assistant Boys' Varsity Coach at Lafayette High School in 2016-17.  Before Lafayette, he was the Varsity Boys' Basketball Head Coach at Princess Anne High School for three years. From 2012-14, Sparks served as the Men's Assistant Coach at Virginia Wesleyan College.  At Wesleyan, he was the lead recruitor and helped oversee the program that went on to win the ODAC championship in 2013.  Before joining the Virginia Wesleyan, Sparks was an Assistant Coach at Louisburg College in 2010-11. Sparks has a Bachelors of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Health and Phsical Education from Norfolk State.  He also earned his Masters of Education with a concentration in Sports Administration from Castleton State College.

Sparks had this to say on his recent promotion.

"I would like to thank Michael Allen for this incredible opportunity! I would also love to thank Coach Kee for hiring me two years ago here at The Apprentice School. I have learned a lot from him and I'm excited that he has been promoted and will still be around here to help assist every sports program. We are Family here and would like to thank Coach Kee, Coach Geo and Coach MJ for all their help with changing this Programs Culture for the better this past year. Special Thanks to our Student-Athletes here, where they not only take classes but also work hard in the ShipYard! Not everyone can do their job. Last but not least, I would love to thank my wife for all her support, she hasn't missed a home game in the past two years! I promise to give my all to the mission of The Apprentice School and to the Men's Basketball Team here! Go Builders!"

The Apprentice School is pleased to announce Tim Sparks as our new Head Men's Basketball Coach. The Builders will begin their season on Friday November 8th. Stay tuned for future Men's Basketball updates!
