Builders Fall 15-10 To Chowan

HAMPTON, VA. -- Zack Beasley's third inning grand slam home run broke open a close game as visiting Chowan University defeated the Apprentice School 15-10 on Tuesday night at War Memorial Stadium.

The Hawks held a 9-1 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth, but the Builders pushed a run across in the fourth as junior Bryce Beale doubled and scored on a single from junior Eric Polk.  In the fifth the Builders scored twice more as junior Kyle Center doubled scoring sophomore Jonathan Dehoux and freshman Dory Fields to cut the lead to 10-4.

After giving up a pair in the sixth, the Builders scored one in its half of the inning as Beale hit his third double of the game to right center and scored on a Polk single.  In the fourth the Builders pushed four runs across as Dory Fields started the inning with a walk and scored on a Polk single.  Sophomore Kenny Eanes then doubled in senior Alan Riley which was followed by a two-run single from sophomore James Denny making the score 12-9.

That was as close as the Builders got as the Hawks scored three in the top of the ninth before Polk's fielders choice Riley with the lone run for the Builders in the bottom of the ninth.

Beale was 4-for-5 on the day with three runs scored, while Polk was 3-for-5 with 4 RBIs.  Eanes and Denny had a pair of hits and drove in a pair of runs each for the Builders (20-19).
