HAMPTON, VA. - Visiting Lock Haven University exploded for 10 runs in the first three innings to defeat the Apprentice School 16-10 for third place in the Builder Invitational on Sunday.
The Bald Eagles jumped quickly scoring five in the first as Tyler Deshong blasted a three-run home run to highlight the inning. In the bottom of the first, Dory Fields drove in a pair with a single for the Builders as they trailed 5-2 after one.
In the second Matt McCamley blasted a two run home run to help Lock Haven up 8-2. They tacked on two more in the top of the third before the Builders pushed four across in its half of the inning. Jonathan Dehoux doubled in a pair of runs and he scored on a RBI single from Fields to cut the deficit to 10-6.
Apprentice School scored two more in the fourth on an error and a sacrifice fly from Ryan Wagner to make the score 10-8. Lock Haven put them back in a hole scoring six times in the sixth inning before the Builders scratched single runs in the eighth and ninth innings.
Fields was 3-for-5 with three RBI while Dehoux, Josh Tuck and Andre Nichols had a pair of hits each for the Builders. Tuck and Daniel Lutz were named to the All-Tournament team.
Apprentice School (2-3) will take the field again on Friday when they face Rappahannock CC in a 2 pm single game at War Memorial Stadium.
