Builders Sweep Doubleheader 8-1, 12-1 Over Southern Maine CC

HAMPTON, VA. – The Apprentice School opened a homestand on Thursday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of USCAA member Southern Maine CC 8-1 and 12-1 at War Memorial Stadium.

In game one, the Builders scored a run off a throwing error in the third.  The next inning Dory Fields started with a solo home run along with a RBI double from Ryan Wagner and a sacrifice fly from Chris Scarola put the Builders up 4-0.

Apprentice School cranked it open with a four-run fifth inning as Jonathan Dehoux started with a solo home run.  Josh Wilson drew a bases loaded walk and later Scarola drove in a pair with a two-run double to put the Builders up 8-0.

Ethan Halberg earned his sixth win on the season with a complete game four-hitter.  He struck out three and allowed one run in the seventh inning.  Six Builders had a hit each, while Scarola drove in three of the eight runs in the game.

Game two saw the Builders score in every inning.  Fields highlighted a three-run first with a two-run double.  Three doubles in the second inning helped plate three more runs as Andrew Hooper and Andrew Yonta doubled in runs while Fields drove in another with a single.

In the third a sacrifice fly from Wagner scored a run, while a wild pitch plated a run in the fourth.  Yonta accounted for all three runs in the fifth with a three-run blast to left field and freshman Devorn Lake hit his first collegiate home run to close the Builders scoring in the sixth with a solo shot.

Tabb Griffey earned his second win on the year throwing six innings allowing five hits and striking out five.  Will Miller pitched the seventh and allowed one run on three hits.  Six Builders had a pair of hits each, while Yonta drove in four and scored three and Fields drove in three runs to lead the RBI brigade.

Apprentice School (12-5) will now host Fulton-Montgomery College in a three-game series starting on Monday with a 1 pm doubleheader at War Memorial Stadium.
