Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader 12-1 And 19-0 Over Fulton-Montgomery

HAMPTON, VA. -- The Apprentice School baseball team opened a three-game series with Fulton-Montgomery CC of Schenectady, NY on Monday with a doubleheader sweep winning 12-1 and 19-0 at War Memorial Stadium.

In game one, the Builders jumped out quickly scoring four runs in the first inning as two of those came in on Josh Tuck's third home run of the season.  Devorn Lake singled in a run and Andrew Hooper drew a bases loaded walk to plate the fourth run of the inning.

Lake doubled in a run in the third to give Apprentice School a 5-0 lead before they pushed across seven runs in the sixth inning.  Jonathan Dehoux smashed his fifth home run of the season to score the first two runs.  Dory Fields tripled in a run, while two runs later scored on bases loaded walks and hit batters.

Freshman Ethan Halberg won his seventh game of the year with six innings of two-hit ball as he struck out eight.  Fields, Lake and Chris Kennedy had a pair of hits each, while Tuck drove in three runs to lead the RBI brigade.

Game two saw the Builders score three runs in the first as Dehoux hit his second two-run home run of the day and Hooper drew another bases loaded walk for a 3-0 lead.  In the second, Dehoux doubled in a run and scored as Andrew Yonta smashed his third home run of the season one batter later for a 6-0 lead.

After scoring three more in the third, the Builders scored five times in the fourth as Tuck cleared the bases with a three-run double to highlight the inning and put the Builders up 14-0.

Ryan Wagner was 4-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and a pair of RBI, while Dehoux was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI.  Five players had multi-hit days and six drove in at least two runs in the contest.

Daniel Lutz earned his third win on the year throwing five innings allowing three hits and striking out three.  Michael Opauski closed out the game allowing one hit and striking out one in his two innings of work.

These teams will play a single-game on Tuesday scheduled for a 5 pm start at War Memorial Stadium.
