Game 1

Game 2

HAMPTON, VA. -- Visiting Briarcliffe College knocked off the baseball team twice on Saturday winning 7-5 in 10 innings and 9-6 in the nightcap at War Memorial Stadium.

In game one, the Seahawks scored a run in the first but the Builders responded with a pair courtesy of the sixth home run on the season for Josh Tuck.

As both teams settled into a groove pitching, the Seahawks took advantage of a pair of Builder errors to score three runs in the top of the sixth to take a 4-2 lead.  In the seventh, Anthony Mele singled in Reggie Smith to give Briarcliffe a 5-2 lead.

Apprentice School put three on the board in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game as Chris Kennedy drove in Jonathan Dehoux who had the first hit of the inning with a single.  PInch-runner Jared Belcher then scored as Dory Fields reached on an error and Devorn Lake later drew a bases loaded walk to score Fields to tie the game.

In the top of the tenth, a throwing error plated the first run for Briarcliffe and a Dave Darcy single scored Mele with the insurance run.

Dehoux was 3-for-6 with a run scored, while Chris Scarola was 3-for-5 for the Builders who had 13 hits in game one.  Daniel Lutz was the losing pitcher throwing the first nine innings  and allowing eights hits with a pair of strikeouts.

In game two, Briarcliffe jumped out to a 3-0 lead through three innings as Joe Solomeno doubled in a run in the first and in the third innings while the third run scored on a throwing error.

Apprentice School (18-9) chopped back into the contest with a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-3 lead.  Josh Wilson drove in Kennedy with the first run in the fourth, while Scarola singled in Ryan Wagner with the second.  In the fifth, Fields singled in Tuck and Wagner singled in Dehoux to put Apprentice School ahead.

Briarcliffe used a sacrifice fly from Tim Coglietta to score Solomeno to tie the game at 4-all in the top of the sixth.  Dehoux put the Builders back up 6-4 smashing his tenth home run on the season to left-centerfield.  That matched his season total from 2009 and gives him 30 for his career.

The Seahawks responded in the seventh taking advantage of a pair of Builder errors to score five runs.  Darcy capped off the inning driving in a pair with a single to centerfield.

Andrew Hooper was 3-for-5 to lead the Builders' 14-hit attack.  Dehoux, Fields and Wagner added a pair of hits each.  Solomeno was 3-for-3 with a pair of runs scored and a pair of RBIs for Briarcliffe (15-7).

These teams will close out a three-game series with an 11 am start at War Memorial Stadium Sunday morning.
