HAMPTON, VA. -- Virginia Wesleyan College's Mike Marion went 3-for-4 and drove in eight runs with a pair of home runs as the Marlins defeated The Apprentice School Builders 12-5 on Thursday night at War Memorial Stadium.

The Marlins opened the scoring in the second with a pair of runs, only to be answered with a pair from the Builders as senior Dory Fields smashed his third home run of the year over the left-centerfield wall to score Andrew Yonta who started the inning with a single.

Marion hit his first home run to dead centerfield in the third to put the Marlins ahead to stay 3-2.  In the fourth, he cleared the bases with a double to right center scoring three to put VWC ahead 6-2.  Two innings later he hit a grand slam home run to right center to put the Marlins ahead 10-2.

Apprentice School (18-12) answered with three runs in the seventh as Chris Scarola and Ryan Wagner singled and later scored on a wild pitch and a RBI single from Fields respectively.  Chris Kennedy singled in Yonta who had an infield single earlier in the inning for a 10-5 deficit.

Six different Builders had a pair of hits each as they out-hit the Marlins 13-10.  Ethan Halberg was the losing pitcher throwing five innings allowing seven hits and striking out five.

The Builders hit the road now to face Danville CC on Monday at noon in a doubleheader at Dan Daniel Park.
