Builders Split Doubleheader At Danville CC

Game 1 – Apprentice School 13, Danville CC 11

Jonathan Dehoux drove in the first run of the game with a single to score Ryan Wagner.  Senior Dory Fields then doubled in Dehoux and Andrew Yonta to give the Builders a 3-0 lead.

Danville answered with a run in the first before the Builders put up another three-spot in the top of the third.  Andrew Hooper singled in Fields who had a double and the other two runs scored courtesy of an error to give Apprentice School a 6-1 lead after three innings.

In the fourth, Danville took its first lead scoring seven runs as Drew Kirks doubled in a pair to highlight the outburst.  Apprentice School answered with four in the top of the fifth as Chris Scarola singled in Chris Kennedy to start the scoring.  Dehoux singled in Scarola and Hooper and Yonta followed with a double to score Ryan Wagner and put Apprentice up 10-8.

Danville responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at 10-all.  The Builders put three more across in the top of the sixth with Devorn Lake doubling in Kennedy and a pair of sacrifice flies from Wagner and Dehoux to give Apprentice School a 13-10 lead.

The Knights pushed across a run in the seventh as Jacob Yates singled in Bill Wooding for the 13-11 eventual margin.  Coire Barnitz struck out Gavin Hylton to end the game.

Scarola was 3-for-4 to lead a 15-hit attack in game one as four other Builders had a pair of hits.  Dehoux drove in four runs and Fields drove in a pair to lead the RBI brigade.  Tim Kehoe picked up the win throwing 1.2 innings in middle relief for starter Tabb Griffey.  Barnitz earned his third save on the year with two innings allowing three hits and one run.

 

Game 2 – Danville CC 5, Apprentice School 4

The Builders started game two off strong with a run in the third on a Scarola single scoring Andrew Hooper.  In the fourth, Danville answered as Gavin Hylton started the inning with a solo home run to left field.

In the fifth, the Builders put up three runs as Wagner drove in one being hit by a pitch, Joshua Tuck reached on a fielders choice to plate one and the final run scored on an error to put the Builders up 4-1.

The Knights ended the game with four runs in the bottom of the seventh, the final two came on a walk-off two-run home run to Hylton.

Kennedy, Hooper and Scarola all had two hits each for the Builders and Barnitz took the loss allowing two runs in the bottom of the seventh.

Apprentice School will return to the field on Tuesday at 6 pm against Thomas Nelson CC at War Memorial Stadium
