Builders Open New York Swing With 10-4 Win At Briarcliffe

HOLBROOK, NY - Junior Josh Tuck smashed his seventh home run on the year and drove in three runs on the day as the Apprentice School defeated Briarcliffe College 10-4 on Thursday afternoon in a key U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association matchup at PAL Complex.

Briarcliffe (19-10) entered the game ranked number one in the latest USCAA coaches poll, while the Apprentice School (22-13) was ranked third.

The Builders broke the game open quickly scoring six runs in the second inning.  Freshman Chris Scarola and Tuck doubled in a pair of runs each to highlight the outburst.  A Jonathan Dehoux double scored Tuck to close out the inning for  a 6-0 advantage.

After giving up a run in the second, the Builders plated one in the third as Will Johnson doubled in Chris Kennedy to lead 7-1.  Tuck followed in the fourth as he started the inning with his seventh home run on the year to give Apprentice School an 8-1 lead.

Briarcliffe scored in the home half of the fourth as Tim Coglietta started the inning with a home run to cut the lead to 8-2.  In the eighth the Builders scored two more on a two-run blast from junior Ryan Wagner.  The home run was his first on the year and the 30th for the team to set a school record for home runs in a year.

Freshman Ethan Halberg threw eight innings to earn his eighth win on the season.  He struck out three and allowed nine hits in the contest.  Kennedy, Johnson and Scarola joined Tuck in the two-hit brigade as the Builders out-hit Briarcliffe 13-9.

Apprentice School will now play St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn on Saturday morning at 10 am at PAL Complex in Holbrook.  At approximately 1 pm the Builders will face Briarcliffe to close out a split-doubleheader.
