Dehoux, Fields Named Second Team All-State By Virginia Sports Information Directors Association

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. --  The Virginia Sports Information Directors Association All-State College Division baseball team was announced on Friday and two Apprentice School players were named to the second team – seniors Jonathan Dehoux and Dory Fields.

Jonathan Dehoux with Apprentice School Head Coach Bryan Cave on Senior Day Dehoux earned his third VaSID honor to go with his three-time USCAA All-American award this year after a record setting senior season.  The Mathews, Va. native topped the USCAA in hits (71), home runs (13), RBI (63) and just broke the Builder single season home run record at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on May 1 with a grand slam.  He became the first Builder player in history to have over 200 hits and 200 RBIs for a career and currently holds or shares 30 school records.  Dehoux finished his career as the first Builder to end with a .400 batting average.

 

 

 

 

 

Dory Fields with Apprentice School Head Coach Bryan Cave on Senior Day

Fields earned his second VaSID honor as he exploded this season leading the team in batting average (.409), second in hits (67) and RBI (61).  He opened the season with a record-tying 5-hit performance against NCAA Division II Bloomsburg University and drove in a career-best six runs against NCAA Division II Lock Haven University.  The Virginia Beach, Va. native has eight outfield assists this year.  Fields earned USCAA All-American and All-Tournament honors as well this year.

Both players were previous honorees by VaSID.  Dehoux was a second team selection in 2008 and a first team in 2009, while Fields earned second team honors in 2008.
