Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader From Castleton State

HAMPTON, VA. – The Apprentice School baseball team swept a doubleheader on Friday from Castleton State College taking the opener 6-5 in 12 innings and winning the nightcap 13-5.

In the opener, the Builders scored a run in the seventh to tie the game at 4-all on a Josh Tuck sacrifice fly to score Chris Scarola who started the inning with a walk.  In the tenth, the Builders tied it at 5-all on a RBI single from Chris Kennedy to score Andrew Hooper.

Trevin Wilson started the 12th reaching on a walk for the Builders and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt from Ryan Wagner.  He scored on an 0-and-2 pitch to Kennedy that got by the catcher for the winning run.

Wagner, Kennedy and Andrew Yonta each had two hits for the Builders.  Coire Barnitz threw the last five innings to pick up the win as he struck out four and allowed three hits.

In game two, the Builders exploded for six runs in the second and seven in the sixth for the 13-5 win.  Tuck had a three-run double to highlight the second and Zachary Harding cleared the bases with a three-run double to highlight the sixth inning.

Hooper and Josh Wilson had two hits each to lead the Builders as they out-hit Castleton State 10-4.  Tabb Griffey went 4.2 innings to get the win as Corey Gallaway closed out the game striking out four in the final two innings.

These teams face off at 11 am on Saturday to close out the three-game series.
