Bearcats Snap Builders' Eight-Game Winning Streak With 11-4 Win

HAMPTON, VA. –  The Apprentice School baseball team saw its eight-game winning streak snapped on Sunday as visiting St. Vincent's scored three in the fourth and four in the fifth to break open a close game en route to an 11-4 win at War Memorial Stadium.

Apprentice School scored a run in the first as Ryan Wagner started the inning with a single and Chris Kennedy doubled him home with a blast to left field.  St. Vincent's answered with a run in the second as Zack Galasso tripled to start the inning and scored on an Erik Fichter single.

The Bearcats then went for three runs in the fourth as Jack Shaffer singled in Grant Krally and a pair of run scoring groundouts from AJ Kavinsky and Zach Bush put the visitors ahead 4-1.  Apprentice School pushed a run over in its half of the fourth as Corey Gallaway doubled to start the inning and scored on a Josh Wilson single for a 4-2 game.

St. Vincent's then tacked on four runs in the top of the fifth with two coming on a Krally double, while Shaffer singled him in and later scored on a AJ Kavinsky sacrifice fly for an 8-2 lead.  They added three more in the top of the seventh on a bases loaded walk to Kavinsky, a single from Zach Bush and a Joe Aul sacrifice fly to lead 11-2.

Apprentice School pushed two across in the eighth as Chris Aldridge tripled to right center scoring Gallaway and Andrew Yonta  to make the score 11-4.

Wagner and Gallaway had two hits apiece for the Builders who were out-hit 18-10 in the game.  Ethan Halberg took the loss throwing four innings and allowing 12 hits.  Shaffer and Steven Bayko had three hits each to lead St. Vincent's.

Apprentice School next takes the field on Wednesday in a 2 pm single game with NCAA Division II Virginia State University.
