Baseball Swept By Briarcliffe In New York

HOLBROOK, N.Y. -- The Apprentice School baseball team lost a doubleheader on Saturday at Briarcliffe College falling 4-1 in the opener and 12-0 in the nightcap at PAL Complex.

In the opener, the Builders struck first with a run in the first as Ryan Wagner started the game with a single and advanced on an error before scoring on a double from Andrew Yonta.  That turned into the only run for the Builders on the day as Briarcliffe answered with a run in the first, two in the third and a run in the sixth.

Chris Kennedy was the hitting standout in game one going 3-for-4 and reaching base every time up for the Builders.  Ethan Halberg was the tough-luck loser in game one allowing nine hits and striking out six in going the distance.

In game two, the Bulldogs bit quickly scoring a pair of runs in the first and runs in every inning but one to take the 12-0 victory.  Rick Doht kept the Builders off-track throwing a three-hitter and striking out eight.  Two of those hits were by Chris Kennedy, while Corey Gallaway had a pinch-hit double in the seventh inning.

These teams will close out their three-game series with an 11 am start on Sunday morning.
