HOLBROOK, NY – Senior Josh Tuck went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs with three coming on a first inning home run as the Apprentice School defeated Briarcliffe College 8-4 in a U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association matchup on Sunday.

The Builders jumped on the board in the first inning as Ryan Wagner started with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Chris Kennedy.  Tuck followed with his first home run of the season with a three-run blast to left-center field.   Chris Aldridge drove in the fourth run in the first inning with a sacrifice fly that scored Andrew Yonta who singled following Tuck's blast.

Apprentice School pushed the lead to 5-0 in the second as Andrew Hooper reached on an error and was sacrificed to second on a Chris Scarola bunt.  Following a fly out, Kennedy singled in Hooper for the 5-0 advantage.

Briarcliffe answered with a pair of runs in the second on a two-run home run by Joseph Russo, but the Builders responded with a run in the fourth as Devorn Lake and Hooper started the inning with singles.  Following a fly out, Wagner reached on an error that allowed Lake to score from second for a 6-2 lead.

The Bulldogs, who had won 12 games in a row prior to today's game, answered with single runs in the fifth and sixth to cut the lead to 6-4.  Joseph Solomeno's RBI single in the fifth and a run-scoring groundout from David Hoskin helped cut the Builders lead in half.

Apprentice School put the game away in the ninth scoring a pair of runs as Scarola reached on an error and advanced on a sacrifice bunt from Wagner.  Kennedy was intentionally walked and both runners advanced on a wild pitch.  Tuck followed with a run-scoring single to put the Builders ahead 7-4.  Yonta followed with a walk and after a fly out, Aldridge drew a bases loaded walk to put Apprentice School ahead 8-4.

Chad Gurganus picked up the victory for the Builders throwing the first five innings and allowing six hits while striking out four.  Corey Gallaway closed the game throwing four innings while allowing four hits and striking out five.  Kennedy added a pair of hits and scored a pair of runs, while Aldridge drive in two on the day to go along with Tuck's 3-for-4 day at the plate.

The Builders return to the area for a Tuesday encounter at NCAA Division III second-ranked Christopher Newport University at 3 pm at Captains Park on the CNU campus.  Apprentice School (17-10) will next be at War Memorial Stadium on Thursday to face Thomas Nelson CC at 6 pm.
