HAMPTON, VA. – Senior Jared Belcher and freshman Chris Aldridge had three hits apiece as the Apprentice School knocked off NCAA Division II and USCAA member Washington Adventist University 16-5 on Monday night.

The Builders plated a run in the first as Aldridge had a one-out single, stole second and advanced on a ground out before scoring on a wild pitch. 

In the third, the Builders batted around for the first of three straight innings as they scored five runs to chase starter Dylan Murphy.  Chris Scarola singled and Josh Tuck was hit by a pitch before Aldridge laced a triple down the right field line.  Ryan Wagner followed with a single to score Aldridge to lead 4-0.  Three batters later, Chris Perry's single to left center got by the left fielder to score Corey Gallaway and Belcher to lead 6-0.

The next inning the Builders batted around again as Belcher drove in two with a bases-loaded double that just missed clearing the wall in right field.  Andrew Yonta then drove in Gallaway with a ground out and Belcher scored as Perry reached on an error as the Builders took a 11-2 lead.

In the fifth, the Builders did it again and batted around to plate four runs.  Tuck singled and advanced as Aldridge reached on an error.  Wagner's single loaded the bases before Gallaway drew his fourth walk on the night to plate Tuck.  Aldridge scored on a passed ball with consecutive singles from Belcher and Yonta to score Wagner and Gallaway to lead 15-2.

After giving up three in the top of the sixth, the Builders did manage a run in the eighth as Scarola started with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch before reaching third on a Zachary Harding single.  He scored on a wild pitch for the 16-5 win.

Tuck, Wagner and Yonta had a pair of hits each for the Builders (23-13) to back the winning pitching effort from Mike Adams who threw 2.1 innings allowing four hits.  Seniors Mike Opauski, Tabb Griffey and Coire Barnitz closed the game started by Chad Gurganus.

Apprentice School now hits the road to face the University of Mary Washington in a 2 pm game in Fredericksburg on Tuesday.
