Halberg Two-Hit Shutout Lifts Builders Over Selma 3-0 At USCAA Nationals

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, MAINE -- Sophomore Ethan Halberg threw a complete game two-hitter as the third-seeded Apprentice School defeated sixth-seeded Selma University 3-0 in the fourth game of the USCAA Baseball National Championships at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach, Maine.

The Builders scored a pair of runs in the first inning as Josh Tuck reached on an error and scored as Chris Aldridge singled to right field.  Ryan Wagner followed with a double to left and Andrew Yonta hit into a force out which plated Aldridge for a 2-0 lead.

In the third, the Builders scored again as Aldridge beat out an infield single and advanced as Wagner was hit by a pitch.  Yonta drew a walk to load the bases and Corey Gallaway followed with a sacrifice fly to score Aldridge for a 3-0 lead.

Singles by Eddie Waters in the first and David Lee with two outs in the second were the lone base runners for Selma on the night as Halberg retired the last 16 batters he faced.  Halberg struck out five in the complete game victory.

Aldridge was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI to lead Builders as Wagner, Gallaway, Chris Perry and Chris Scarola all had a hit apiece for Apprentice School (26-14) who will now face the defending USCAA National Champions Briarcliffe College at 12:30 pm on Sunday.
