HAMPTON, VA. – The Apprentice School baseball team opened its 2012 season on Saturday falling 13-1 at War Memorial Stadium to visiting Bridgewater College.
Apprentice School scratched a run across in the sixth inning as Andrew Hooper started with a double down the left field line. Following a fly out, Chris Perry's single to right field was just far enough to move Hooper to third. Devorn Lake followed with a force out of Perry which enabled Hooper to score and cut the lead then to 6-1.
Bridgewater answered with six runs in the seventh and one in the eighth to blow the game wide open and take the 13-1 win.
Perry was 2-for-3 to lead an eight-hit attack for the Builders. Senior Daniel Lutz took the loss throwing 4.2 innings and allowing five hits with three runs.
The Builders hit the field again on Thursday at 3 pm to start the Builder Invitational hosting NCAA Division II Bloomsburg University.
