HAMPTON, VA. -- The Apprentice School split a pair of games on Saturday in the Builder Invitational losing 4-3 to Lock Haven, while defeating Briarcliffe 24-11.
Sunday'S schedule will not be determined until the final game of the pool bracket is done between Bloomsburg and Kutztown.
Against Lock Haven, the Builders scored three runs in the second inning on a three-run triple from Chris Aldridge. He, Trevin Wilson and Devorn Lake had two hits each as the Builders had nine on the game.
Lock Haven scored single runs in the third and fifth before a Ryan Watkins triple in the eighth drove in the tying run and he scored as the throw to third got by the third baseman allowing him to score the winning run.
Travis Cherry took the loss throwing three innings and allowing five hits. David Masteller pitched the last two innings for Lock Haven to take win. Ryan Henritzy was 3-for-4, while Kevin Cressman was 2-for 4 to lead Lock Haven.
APPRENTICE 24, BRIARCLIFFE 11
In a game that saw the most combined runs in one game for the Builders since 2001, sophomore Chris Aldridge went 4-for-6 with five RBI while Devorn Lake was 3-for-5 with four runs scored as the Apprentice School trailed 6-1 after one and erupted for a 24-11 victory over Briarcliffe.
The Builders scored four runs in the second as Aldridge delivered the big blow with a two-run double. In the fourth, the Builders scored three more to lead 7-6.
Briarcliffe pushed two across in the fifth on a bases loaded walk to Ralph Perez and a RBI single from Thomas Butler to re-take the lead at 8-7. Apprentice School responded with four in the sixth, two on a Matt Zapf double, and five more in the seventh on an RBI single from Zapf, a pair of sacrifice flies from Travis Franklin and Zach Harding along with an error and a wild pitch to lead 17-9.
After giving up a pair in the bottom of the eighth, the Builders erupted for seven runs in the ninth on a pair of two-run hits from Aldridge and Ryan Hendrickson to highlight the inning.
Senior Will Miller came in to earn the victory with two innings of relief allowing two hits and an unearned run. Sam Massie closed the game throwing three innings and allowing three hits and a pair of unearned runs.
