Baseball Sweeps Three-Game Set With Seawolves

HAMPTON, VA. -- Freshman Jordan Cowles went 4-for-6 with four RBI to pace a 25-hit attack on Tuesday as the Apprentice School baseball team closed out a three-game sweep of U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association member Southern Maine CC with a 21-4 win at War Memorial Stadium.

The Builders put a run up in the first and followed with six in the second as Zach Harding doubled in Matt Zapf and later scored on a triple from Cowles to jump start the inning.  After giving up three in the top of the third, the Builders responded with eight in the bottom of the fourth with Devorn Lake bringing in three with a bases clearing double.

Southern Maine CC scratched its final run across in the fifth on a throwing error to bring the lead to 15-4.  The Builders pushed a pair of runs across in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings for the final margin.

Ryan Hendrickson was  3-for-5 with three runs driven in, while Harding was 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a pair of runs driven in to help bolster the hitting attack on Tuesday.  Freshman Cody Norris won his second game of the year throwing five innings and striking out four.

The Builders return to action on Thursday night with a 5 pm game against Castleton State College to start a weekend swing at War Memorial Stadium.
