Castleton State Stops Builders 11-1

HAMPTON, VA. -- Visiting Castleton State College broke open a tied game with a pair of three run innings as they defeated the Apprentice School 11-1 on Friday at War Memorial Stadium.

The Builders scratched a run on the scoreboard in the second inning as Ryan Hendrickson singled and advanced as Zach Harding was hit by a pitch.  Following a strikeout, Chris Scarola singled to right to plate Hendrickson for the early lead.

Castleton State pushed a run across in the third and then three in the fourth with a pair on consecutive doubles from Tyler Hoare and Matt McNamee.  They also added three in the sixth on a bases loaded walk, a wild pitch and a RBI single from Cameron Curler.

In the eighth, the Spartans pushed four runs across with a two-run single from Curler highlighting the outburst.

Freshman Ryland Edwards took the loss for the Builders throwing four innings and allowing six hits with three strikeouts.  Five Builders had a hit each as they were out-hit 15-5.  Ryan Zelinski, Hoare and McNamee had three hits apiece to pace Castleton State.

The Builders take the field again on Saturday morning for an 11 am doubleheader with St. Vincent's College at War Memorial Stadium.
