HAMPTON, VA. – Freshman Ryland Edwards threw a one-hitter while senior Andrew Hooper blasted a two-run home run as the Apprentice School swept Fulton-Montgomery CC with a 10-0 win on Tuesday at War Memorial Stadium.

That was the fewest hits allowed in a game since May 12, 2010 when Tim Kehoe threw a no-hitter against Penn State-Greater Allegheny in the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association National Championship.

Edwards, a freshman electrician apprentice from Franklin, Va., was in control throughout the game throwing 74 pitches in the seven-inning game stopped by the 10-run rule.  He gave up a two-out single to Genesis Cruz that was just out of the reach of three Builders trying to preserve the no-hit attempt.  Edwards forced a groundout to end the contest as he struck out five and walked one to raise his record to 2-2.

Apprentice School started the scoring in the third inning as Travis Franklin doubled down the left field line to score Chris Scarola and Chris Aldridge who each walked.  In the fourth, they put up two more runs as Trevin Wilson singled to left field scoring Scarola and Zachary Harding who both earlier singled.

In the fifth, the Builders put two more across as Andrew Hooper smashed a two-run home run down the left field line to score Franklin who walked.  The Apprentice School erupted for four runs in the sixth as Hooper singled in Aldridge and Harding drove in a pair with a single to go with a run scoring on a wild pitch to lead 10-0.

Wilson, Hooper and Harding had two hits each for the Builders, while Hooper drove in three runs to lead the RBI brigade.

Apprentice School (15-9) takes the field again on Wednesday night to face Thomas Nelson CC in a 5 pm contest at War Memorial Stadium.
