Builders Catch Gators In Big Home Win

HAMPTON, VA. – Freshmen Jordan Cowles, Raul Martinez and Lee Rossi had three hits apiece for the Apprentice School on Friday afternoon as they defeated Thomas Nelson CC 20-1.

The Builders scored four in the second inning as Rossi cleared the bases with a triple and scored on a fielders choice from Chris Scarola.  They pushed single runs across in the third and fourth to take a 6-0 lead after four.

Thomas Nelson scored its run in the fifth as Jordan Roby singled to right field and took second on an errant throw.  He advanced to third on a Dylan Caywood single and scored as Caywood stole second and the throw got into the outfield allowing Caywood to score.

Apprentice School responded with a seven-run fifth highlighted by a two-run double from Scarola and a two-run single from Zach Harding.  In the sixth, Justin Hike singled in Raul Martinez to start a four-run sixth before the Builders put up a pair in the seventh and one more in the eighth.

Rossi and Scarola drove in four runs, while Martinez had three RBI on the game for the Builders.  Trevin Wilson, joined Scarola in the two-hit club as the Builders had 16 hits in the game.  Junior Devorn Lake picked up the win throwing two innings and striking out four.

The Builders hit the road on Tuesday to Virginia State University for a 2 pm start in Petersburg.
