HAMPTON, VA. -- Steven Lindenmuth was 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead a 16-hit attack for NCAA Division III second-ranked Christopher Newport University on Thursday as they defeated the Apprentice School 9-1 at War Memorial Stadium.
The Captains scored four runs in the top of the second as Chris McDougal singled in a pair to highlight the inning. They pushed three more across in the fifth on RBI singles from Lindemuth and Ben Lenda along with a wild pitch. In the ninth, an RBI single from Tyler Cobb and a bases loaded walk to Shannon Mark pushed across their final runs.
Apprentice School scratched a run in the fourth inning as Devorn Lake started the inning with a double and scored on a Travis Franklin single to right field.
Chris Scarola was the leading hitter for the Builders going 2-for-3 as they were out-hit 16-6. Lake took the loss throwing the first two innings and allowing four runs with two strikeouts.
