Baseball Rallies To Pull Out 10-8 Win At College Of The Albemarle

ELIZABETH CITY, NC -- The baseball team jumped out to an 8-0 early lead and had to score two in the top of the 12th inning to pull out a 10-8 victory over College of the Albemarle on Wednesday at Knobbs Creek Park.

In the first inning, the Builders broke open quickly scoring six runs as six different players drove in a run in the seven-hit outburst to start the game.  Apprentice School (25-15) put two more on the board in the top of the second as Ryan Hendrickson smashed a one-out solo home run and the second run came on a dropped fly ball that scored Andrew Hooper who had singled following Hendrickson's blast.

The Dolphins started a comeback with a run in the bottom of the second and put up four more in the bottom of the fourth as Jud Smith tripled in Josh Howard to cut the lead to 8-5.  They scratched a single run in the sixth on a Killian Strenn double to score Howard and again in the seventh on a suicide squeeze bunt by William Norrell to score Evan Holton cutting the lead to 8-7.  In the bottom of the ninth, the Dolphins took advantage of a pair of errors by the Builders to tie the game.

Apprentice School bounced back in the top of the 12th inning to plate a pair of runs as Trevin Wilson singled and stole second before advancing to third on a wild pitch.  He scored on a dropped fly ball as Travis Franklin reached on the error.  Franklin advanced on a bunt single from Justin Hike and scored on a Hooper single for the insurance run.

Sam Massie took the win on the mound for the Builders throwing the last five innings and allowing three hits and striking out three to raise his record to 4-0.  Wilson topped the team at the plate going 4-for-6, while Hooper and Chris Scarola had three hits each.

The Builders return home on Friday afternoon for a 5 pm start against the University of Mary Washington at War Memorial Stadium.
