Baseball Falls 9-3 To Mary Washington

HAMPTON, VA. -- Five players had two hits each for visiting University of Mary Washington as they scored five runs in the fifth to defeat the Apprentice School 9-3 on Friday night at War Memorial Stadium.

In the third, Connor Finnerty doubled in Jonathan Haught to break the scoring ice and put the Eagles up 1-0.  Two innings later, Jake Rudman singled in a pair of runs to highlight the five-run outburst which put UMW up 6-0.

The Builders cracked the scoreboard in its half of the fifth as Trevin Wilson doubled in Jordan Cowles and Zach Harding who singled and walked to start the inning.  Chris Scarola scored the final run on a wild pitch to bring the Builders to 6-3.

Mary Washington put their final runs on the board with a three-run seventh inning on back-to-back doubles from Seth Jordan and Kevin Yarnell and a run-scoring single from Haught.

Cowles was the leading hitter for the Builders going 2-for-3 as they were out-hit 12-5 in the game.  Freshman Ryland Edwards took the loss throwing 4.1 innings and allowing six hits and six runs.

The Builders will close out their regular season on Tuesday with Senior Night at 5 pm when they host Thomas Nelson CC at War Memorial Stadium.
