Apprentice School Weekend Preview - Feb. 15-16 UPDATED

The Apprentice School baseball season starts up on Saturday with a scheduled noon first-pitch against Bridgewater College at War Memorial Stadium.  With the forecast looking shaky with snow showers, the baseball game was bumped up an hour from a 1pm to a noon start.

Apprentice School (29-18 in 2012) returns five players who hit .300 or over last year off a team that finished second in the USCAA Small College World Series.  Junior shortstop Trevin Wilson topped the team in batting average last year at .390, followed by senior first baseman Devorn Lake (.375) and senior infielder Chris Scarola (.344).

On the mound, the Builders return three of the top five in earned run average with sophomore Sam Massie leading with a 2.70 earned run average and a 5-1 record as a freshman.  Sophomores Cody Norris (2.95/2-0) and Ryland Edwards (3.19/3-5) follow him on the mound.

Bridgewater (0-1) opened its 2013 season on Tuesday falling 8-4 to Ferrum College.  Nick Fulk was 3-for-5 with a run scored, while Derrik Walling was 1-for-3 and drove in two runs with a home run to lead the Eagles at the plate.  Last year Bridgewater defeated the Builders 13-1.

The Apprentice School wrestling team will have a busy weekend in Pennsylvania starting tonight at 7 pm when they face Penn State DuBois in a dual match on the DuBois campus.  These teams met on November 10 in the Electric City Duals hosted by the University of Scranton and the Builders came on top by a 32-16 count.

On Saturday, the team will travel to State College, PA to participate in the USCAA National Invitational hosted on the Penn State University campus.  Last year, the Builders edged Lindenwood-Belleville 169-167 to win the 10-team tournament.

This marks the first weekend that the Builders have participated since January 26 when they won the 10-team Builder Invitational at Woodside High School.
