Two-Out Hits Doom Builders In 5-2 Loss To Kutztown

HAMPTON, VA. – Visiting Kutztown University took advantage of timely hitting with two-out RBI singles in four separate innings as they defeated the Apprentice School 5-2 in the Builder Invitational at War Memorial Stadium.

The Builders scored a run in the first on two Kutztown errors.  Trevin Wilson reached on a throwing error and eventually scored as Devorn Lake also reached on a throwing error.

Kutztown struck in the third inning as Carson Baker stroked a two-out single to center to score Brett Hauck who reached being hit by a pitch.  In the fifth, Baker's two-out infield single plated Brandon Martinez who singled to start the inning.

They added a single run in the sixth as Ricky Gorrell's two-out single scored John Dockins to lead 3-1. In the seventh, Thomas Romano joined the two-out hit club with a RBI single scoring Baker to push the lead to 4-2.

The Apprentice School pushed a run across in the bottom of the eighth as Chris Aldridge reached on an error and went to third on a Devorn Lake single to center.  A wild pitch pushed Aldridge across cutting the lead down to 4-2.

The Golden Bears scored an insurance run in the ninth as Matt Albaugh doubled in Kyle Stoudt for the bonus run.

Wilson, Aldridge and Lake had the three hits for the Builders in the game as freshman Taylor Gomer took the loss throwing five innings allowing five hits and striking out five.

Apprentice School returns to action on Saturday with a pair of games starting at 9 am against Briarcliffe College and then again at 6pm against Lock Haven University.
