Builders Topple Dolphins Before Rain 10-1

HAMPTON, VA. – Juniors Zach Harding and Chris Perry drove in three runs apiece on Tuesday night as the Apprentice School defeated College of the Albemarle 10-1 in a game stopped in the bottom of the seventh inning due to rain.

The Builders broke on the board early scoring six runs in the home half of the first inning with three of those coming on a bases clearing double to left field by Harding.  In the second, Perry drove in his second run of the game with a single up the middle to score Devorn Lake who started the inning with a walk and stole second.

After giving up a run in the third, the Builders pushed another one across Chris Aldridge opened with a double and took third on a wild pitch.  Following a walk to Lake and a fly out, Perry grounded out to score Aldridge for an 8-1 advantage.

The bottom of the seventh saw the Builders push two more across as with one out a pair of walks to Harding and Chris Scarola sandwiched a hit by Trevin Wilson to load the bases.  Aldridge drew a bases loaded walk to drive in a run and Lake drove in the next with a sacrifice fly to center plating Wilson for a 10-1 lead.

Sophomore Cody Norris picked up the win throwing the first five innings, allowing three hits and striking out three.  Perry threw the last two innings and striking out four with allowing a pair of hits.  Aldridge, Wilson and Harding all had two hits for the Builders.

Apprentice School now travels to Vero Beach, FL for the USCAA Invitational starting on Thursday with a 1 pm game against Penn State Greater Allegheny.  They'll also face West Virginia University Institute of Technology at 7 pm.
