HAMPTON, VA. – Devorn Lake smashed a two-run double to highlight a five-run sixth inning as the Apprentice School pulled away from Southern Maine CC for an 8-6 win on Wednesday in a U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association contest at War Memorial Stadium.

The visiting SeaWolves jumped out quickly putting up five runs in the first inning with run-scoring singles from Devin Lyshon, Zach Horton and Brendan Reil pushing SMCC to the early advantage.

Apprentice School chipped away with two runs in the bottom of the first on an RBI triple from Chris Aldridge and a run scoring double from Lake.  The Builders put up another run in the second as Chris Scarola walked, stole second and went to third on an error.  Trevin Wilson drove in Scarola with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 5-3.

In the sixth, Lee Rossi started with a double and advanced  on a wild pitch.  Following an out and a hit batter, walks to Wilson and Brock Harris brought in a run.  Aldridge followed with a single to left to plate the tying run.  Lake answered with a double down the left field line to score Harris and Wilson.  Cody Seals singled through the left side to plate Aldridge and put the Builders up 8-5.

SMCC pushed a run across in the ninth, but Harris got Ethan Bilderback to line out to left field to end the game.

Aldridge and Lake had two hits each to lead the Builders.  Lake drove in three runs with a pair of doubles, while Aldridge drove in two and scored two with a triple.  Chad Gurganus took the win for the Builders throwing two innings and allowing two hits with a walk and a strikeout.
