Seals Doubles Up At Plate As Builders Topple Bearcats 6-1

HAMPTON, VA. – Freshman Cody Seals had a pair of two-run doubles to drive in four runs on the day as the Apprentice School continued its strong start to the season by knocking off St. Vincent 6-1 at War Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

Starting pitchers were on point for the first three innings as Apprentice School's Taylor Gomer and St. Vincent's Jared Haller each kept the other team off the scoreboard.  In the fourth inning, the Builders broke the ice as Chris Aldridge started the inning with an infield single and went to third on a Mark Labrador single up the middle.  After Labrador stole second and Cody Harris walked, Seals slapped his first double down the left field line to plate Aldridge and Labrador for a 2-0 advantage.

In the fifth, the Builders erupted for four runs as Trevin Wilson started with an infield single and went to second on a balk.  He scored as Lee Rossi doubled to left field.  Aldridge followed with a single to put runners on the corners before Devorn Lake stroked a single through the right-side of the infield for a 4-0 lead.  With two outs, Seals put his second 2-run double down the left field line to score Harris and Lake for the 6-0 lead.

Gomer picked up the win for the Builders throwing six innings and allowing five hits with four strikeouts.  Sam Massie threw the seventh and eighth innings and allowed three hits, the one run in the eighth and struck out two.  Labrador finished the game in the ninth allowing one hit.

Wilson went 3-for-4, while Aldridge and Seals each had two hits for the Apprentice School (15-3) who out-hit the Bearcats 12-9.  These teams meet again on Sunday at noon to conclude a six-game week for the Builders.
