Builders Take Pair From Dragons

HAMPTON, VA. -- The Apprentice School used a pair of strong pitching performances on Tuesday to defeat Virginia University of Lynchburg in a U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association doubleheader 18-0 and 17-0 at War Memorial Stadium.

In game one, sophomores Cody Norris and Jonathan Whelan combined on a two-hit shutout as the Builders jumped on the board quickly with six runs in the first inning en route to the 18-0 win.  Cody Seals and Zach Harding drove in three runs each, while Brock Harris, Chris Aldridge and Harding had two hits apiece.  Norris threw the first four innings with three strikeouts, while Whelan threw the fifth and struck out three.

The nightcap saw freshman Kyle Clark take a no-hit bid into the fifth inning where Raphael King stroked a leadoff single to center for the first hit by the Dragons.  Tyler Winn and Tim Moore each had three hits for the Builders, while Moore and Lee Rossi drove in three runs each.  Clark struck out four for his second win of the year.

Apprentice School now goes up Route 13 on Wednesday to face NCAA Division III #1-ranked Salisbury University at 2 pm.  A video feed from the game will be available by clicking here.
