Ninth Inning Hit Lifts Sea Gulls Over Builders 4-3

SALISBURY, MD. – Nick Gentry's one-out single in the bottom of the ninth scoring Bill Root with the winning run as NCAA Division III top-ranked Salisbury University defeated the Apprentice School 4-3 at a blustery SU Baseball Field on Wednesday.

Salisbury (14-2) scored in the first as Graci doubled to right center to score Root who had reached on a single. 

The Builders scored an unearned run in the third as Chris Scarola walked and went to second on a Zach Harding single.  After a sacrifice from Trevin Wilson, Scarola scored on a passed ball.  Salisbury responded in the home half of the third as with two outs Quinn Griffith doubled and scored on a single from Evan Graci.

Apprentice School (18-4) took the lead in the fourth as Chris Aldridge beat out an infield single and went to third on a Devorn Lake double.  Mark Labrador hit a sacrifice fly to center which plated Aldridge to tie the game.  Freshman Cody Seals singled through the left side to move Lake to third.  Sophomore Lee Rossi then doubled to left which scored Lake for a 3-2 lead.

The Sea Gulls tied the game in the seventh as with two outs, Gentry doubled  in Bobby Sanzone who had reached on a walk.  In the ninth, Root reached on a fielders choice and stole second before Gentry singled up the middle for the game winning hit.

Lake and Rossi had two hits each for the Builders as Sam Massie took the loss throwing 1.2 innings and allowing three hits.  Ryland Edwards went 6.2 innings  and allowed eight hits with four strikeouts.

Kyle Hamby took the win for Salisbury throwing 3.2 innings with six strikeouts.  Graci was 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Sea Gulls at the plate.

Apprentice School returns to War Memorial Stadium on Saturday to host Tufts University in a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.
