Gomer Named USCAA Pitcher Of The Week

Apprentice School freshman Taylor Gomer was named on Tuesday as the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association Pitcher of the Week for the week ending March 31.

Gomer, an insulator apprentice from Smithfield, VA., threw a complete-game two-hitter on Saturday as the top-ranked Apprentice School Builders defeated fourth-ranked Southern Virginia University 3-0.  He started the game retiring the first ten batters and closed the game retiring the final five.  In five of the seven innings, he threw less than 10 pitches.

On the year, Gomer is 3-1 with a 1.01 earned run average.  He leads the team in strikeouts (28), complete games (2) and innings pitched (35.2).  Gomer is the third Builder to earn a USCAA Honor after Trevin Wilson and Cody Seals.

Following today's game against Danville CC, the Builders (24-4) will play at Christopher Newport University (23-8-1) on Thursday at 3 pm at Captains Park.
