IN BRIEF: Sophomores ruled the field on Monday night as sophomore Ryan Hendrickson drove in the go-ahead run as Apprentice School defeated Briarcliffe College 2-1 in the opening round of the USCAA Small College World Series.  On the mound a combined effort from sophomores Ryland Edwards and Sam Massie gave the Builders win #33 on the year.

GAME NOTES

  • Apprentice School scored a run in the first as Chris Aldridge hit a triple down the right field line to score Trevin Wilson who started the game with a walk.
  • Ryland Edwards kept the Buildogs in check for the first four innings before Briarcliffe clawed a run in the fifth as Anthony Mele doubled in Joseph Fiorino who had singled and stole second.
  • In the sixth, the Builders pushed a run across as Harris opened with a walk and was sacrificed to second by Mark Labrador.  Hendrickson followed with a single to right to plate Harris for the 2-1 advantage.
  • Edwards threw the first six for the Apprentice School allowing one run on four hits with four strikeouts to put his record at 5-0.  Sam Massie pitched the seventh for the Apprentice School and earned his fifth save with two strikeouts.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

  • Four Bulldogs had a hit apiece for Briarcliffe in Fiorino, Puma, Juan Colon and Daniel Farino.  The Builders were topped by Aldridge who was 3-for-4 and Wilson who was 2-for-3.
  • A much different affair than when these teams met in late February as the Builders scored a 16-5 win over Briarcliffe in the Builder Invitational on February 24.
  • Two single season records were tied on Monday night - with his triple in the first inning, Aldridge ties the school record for triples in a season with seven.  Massie ties the single season saves record as he recorded his fifth with the clean seventh inning.
