Six Builders Earn VaSID Academic All-State Honors

The Virginia Sports Information Directors Academic All-State team was announced on Tuesday morning and six Apprentice School athletes were named to the list encompassing all schools on all collegiate levels in Virginia.

To earn the honor, a student-athlete had to have a minimum 3.25 grade point average and be at least a sophomore in eligibility.

A total of 221 student-athletes, representing 37 schools, were honored.

 

Forrest Barefoot, Soph., Golf, Welder, 3.89, Yorktown, VA

              A two-year member of the golf team, he finished in the top ten in three events as a sophomore.  His best round was an 89 in the Louisburg College Dual in the fall and the Chowan University Dual in the spring.

Brock Bullock, Jr., Football, Electrician, 3.91, Fredericksburg, VA

              A three-year linebacker for the football team, he topped the team with 74 tackles including nine for a loss.  He was a 2011-12 VaSID Academic All-State selection as well.

Darrell Fenton, Jr., Men's Basketball, Insulator, 3.39, New Kent, VA

              A three-year forward for the men's basketball team who averaged 9.6 points and 6.3 rebounds as a junior to go along with a team-high 42 blocked shots.  He had a season high 21 points against St. Vincent (PA) and hauled in 10 rebounds against Florida Christian College and Barber-Scotia College.

Brittanie Herriott, Jr., Women's Basketball, Maintenance Electrician, 3.82, Va. Beach, VA

              A three-year guard on the Lady Builders basketball team, she had a season-high eight points at Berkeley College (NY) on January 13.  She earned USCAA All-Academic honors this year.

Dwayne Roes, Soph., Wrestling, Machinist, 3.72, Staunton, VA

              A two-year starter at 133 pounds, he finished this year with a 26-17 record.  He was third on the team in wins by fall (14) and qualified for the NCWA Nationals in March.

Chris Scarola, Sr., Baseball, Dimensional Control Technician, 3.82, Williamsburg, VA

                A four-year starter at second base, he had a .254 batting average this year.  Scarola started every game in his collegiate career (171).  He was a 2011-12 VaSID Academic All-State selection as well and earned USCAA All-Academic honors for three years.
