IN BRIEF: The Apprentice School opened its 2014 baseball season on Sunday afternoon as they swept a doubleheader from Thomas Nelson CC 5-1 and 3-0. Freshman Darius Harris had four hits in the two games, while Brock Harris, Javier Remigio and Trevin Wilson had two hits in the doubleheader.

ON THE FIELD – GAME 1: Freshman Darius Harris was 3-for-3 with a run and RBI as the Apprentice School scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth as they took the opener of a season-opening doubleheader 5-1 over Thomas Nelson CC.

The Gators scratched the first run of the game in the fourth as Taylor Tant started the inning with a single.  He stole second and went to third on a sacrifice before scoring on a double from Hunter Triplett.

In the fifth, the Builders tied the game as Brock Harris started the inning with a single and stole second.  After two fly outs, Javier Remigio beat out an infield single and an errant throw allowed Harris to score the tying run.

The Builders broke the game open in the sixth as Christian Burton, Darius Harris and Brock Harris all had RBI singles and Trevin Wilson drove in one on a groundout for the four-run outburst.

Senior Chris Perry went the first five innings and struck out seven with two hits.  Freshman James Anthony threw the final two innings and struck out two to take the win in his collegiate debut.

GAME 2 – Senior Ryland Edwards and junior Sam Massie combined to throw a two-hit shutout as the Builders scratched single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings for a 3-0 win.

In the third, Wilson drove in Thomas Richardson who started the inning with a walk on a double.  A wild pitch in the fifth plated Wilson who had reached on a fielders choice and stole second.  In the sixth, Mark Labrador reached on an error and advanced to second on a balk before a Richardson double to score him.

Edwards did not allow a hit until the top of the sixth when Teddy Bachet reached on a single up the middle.  He threw 5.2 innings with one hit, walked two and struck out six.  Massie came in and threw the final 1.1 innings with a hit and one strikeout.

The Builders return to War Memorial Stadium on Tuesday afternoon for a noon doubleheader when they'll face Danville CC.
