Kutztown Topples Builders 10-2 In Day Two Of Invitational

IN BRIEF: Visiting Kutztown University scored put seven runs across over a three inning span after a nearly three hour rain delay as they defeated The Apprentice School 10-2 in the second game of the Builder Invitational on Friday.

ON THE FIELD: Kutztown started the scoring with a pair of runs in the second inning as Dariel Richardson hit an infield single to score Drew DeShong.  The second one came on a double steal which plated Thomas Romano.

Apprentice School got a run back in the second as Lee Rossi took a 3-2 pitch over the left-centerfield wall for his first collegiate home run.

The Golden Bears scored another run in the third as Joe Peters singled in John Dockins who started the inning with a single.

After a nearly three hour rain delay, the Kutztown bats awoke scoring two runs in the fifth along with the sixth and scored three in the top of the seventh.  The Builders got a run back in the bottom of the seventh as Brock Harris drove in Thomas Dudley with a groundout. 

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

  • Mark Labrador was the lone Builder with a multi-hit game going 2-for-4. 
  • Kelmin Escalera was the losing pitcher in his collegiate debut as he threw four innings and allowed six hits with two strikeouts. 
  • Dudley had a single in his at-bat in the seventh for his first collegiate hit.
  • Five Kutztown players had two hits each as they out-hit the Builders 15-7.

NEXT UP – BRIARCLIFFE AND LOCK HAVEN

The Builders will play two games on Saturday as they'll open with Briarcliffe at noon and will face Lock Haven at 3 pm.  After all of Saturday's games, the records of the teams will determine the seeding and schedule for Sunday's games.
