Baseball Splits In Day Three Of Invitational

IN BRIEF: The Apprentice School baseball team split a pair of games in the third day of the Builder Invitational defeating Briarcliffe College 12-6 and losing 4-0 to Lock Haven University on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium.

VS. BRIARCLIFFE – The Builders jumped out quickly pushing five runs across in the first inning with two coming on RBI singles from Javier Remigio and Christian Burton.  Briarcliffe put a run up in the first as Chris Carrano doubled to left centerfield to score Brandon Fischer who singled ahead of him.

In the second, the Builders batted around again and scored four times as Burton cleared the bases with a double to left center to score three runs.  The Bulldogs repeated their first inning as they plated another run on a single from Daniel Farina to score Gus Mejia which trimmed the deficit to 9-2.

Briarcliffe pushed four across in the fourth as Caranno doubled down the left field line to score three runs which trimmed the margin to 9-6.

Apprentice School scratched single runs in the sixth, eighth and ninth innings as Burton had his second double of the day in the sixth to score Labrador.  In the eighth, Burton drove in Labrador again with a sacrifice fly to left and in the ninth, a double play ball drove in the final run in a 12-6 Apprentice School win.

Trevin Wilson joined Labrador and Burton with three hits in the game.  Burton drove in five, while Wilson and Labrador each scored three runs.  Sophomore Colton Copeland earned the win throwing 2.1 innings of relief allowing one hit with one walk. 

VS. LOCK HAVEN – The Apprentice School bats were silenced as Joe Nestor threw a complete game five-hit shutout of the Builders in a 4-0 Lock Haven win.  Austin Botts drove in two runs with a single in the eighth inning to give the Bald Eagles the 4-0 advantage.

Senior Trevin Wilson had two hits in support of fellow senior Chris Perry who threw 7.1 innings of four-hit ball and struck out seven.

NEXT UP – THIRD-PLACE GAME

The Builders will take on either Bloomsburg or Briarcliffe on Sunday at noon for third place in the Builder Invitational.
