Baseball Starts Friday With 8-0 Win Over University Of Mary

IN BRIEF: The baseball team opened Friday play in Vero Beach, Florida by avenging a loss from Thursday night with an 8-0 win over NCAA Division II University of Mary.

ON THE FIELD: Sophomore Taylor Gomer threw eight innings of five-hit ball as the Apprentice School avenged a loss from Thursday night by defeating University of Mary 8-0.

The Builders scored first on a bases loaded walk to Christian Burton and a sacrifice fly by Lee Rossi to take a 2-0 lead after top of the second.  They added another one in the third as with one out, Chris Aldridge tripled to right center and scored on a Brian Belvin groundout.

In the fifth, the Builders broke it open with four runs as Rossi drove in a pair with a single and Burton followed one batter later with a two-run double to give the Builders a 7-0 lead.  They pushed a single run across in the seventh as Burton singled in Belvin for an 8-0 lead.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

  • Rossi and Burton had three hits apiece to lead a 15-hit attack for the Builders.
  • Burton drove in four runs, while Rossi had two RBI.
  • Brock Harris, Thomas Dudley and Aldridge all had two hits each.
  • Gomer goes to 3-0 on the year with the five-hit shutout.

The Builders close out Friday action at 7 pm against National Junior College Athletic Association Division I powerhouse Hagerstown CC.
