IN BRIEF: Freshman Brian Belvin drove in four, three on a home run and sophomore Brock Harris broke a school record with four stolen bases, as the Apprentice School opened a week-long homestand with an 11-4 win over Southern Maine CC on Monday night.
ON THE FIELD: The Builders gave up a run in the first inning before putting four across in the home half of the inning. Walk to Brock Harris and Christian Burton before a single by Chris Aldridge loaded the bases to start the inning. Belvin followed with a walk to tie the game 1-1. Lee Rossi drove in one with a sacrifice fly before a pair of unearned runs gave the Builders a 4-1 advantage.
In the second, Harris started the inning with a single and one out later Aldridge drew another walk to set up Belvin. He took a pitch over the wall in left field to give the Builders a 7-1 advantage.
Rossi drove in one with a double in the fourth and Trevin Wilson followed with an RBI single as the Builders went up 9-1 after four. They pushed another run across in the sixth as Rossi started the inning with a triple and scored on a wild pitch.
Apprentice School closed their scoring in the seventh as Cody Norris had a two-out double and scored on a single from Ryan Hendrickson. The SeaWolves scored a run on a RBI groundout in the eighth and put two more up in the ninth on a sacrifice fly and a single.
BEHIND THE BOXSCORE:
- Junior Ryland Edwards won his third decision of the year with a six inning start allowing seven hits and striking out a career-high 10. That marked the first time a Builder pitcher had struck out 10 or more in a game since Daniel Lutz struck out 11 against Virginia State nearly three years ago to the day on March 16, 2011.
- Harris broke the single-game stolen base record with his four swipes on Monday night. The previous mark was three held by many people.
- Edwards closed out his start with striking out the final three batters in the sixth inning after a leadoff single to Brendan Horton.
- Joining Belvin in the two-hit club were Harris (2-for-3 with two runs), Rossi (2-for-3 with 2 RBI) and Wilson (2-for-4).
