FINAL SCORE: Apprentice School 4, Southern Maine CC 1

RECORDS: Apprentice School 15-6, Southern Maine CC 8-9

LOCATION: War Memorial Stadium/Hampton, VA

IN BRIEF: Senior Chris Perry threw six innings of three-hit ball and junior Sam Massie closed the game with an inning of hitless relief for his fifth save of the year as the Apprentice School topped Southern Maine CC 4-1 in a U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association matchup Tuesday night.

ON THE FIELD:

  • The Builders broke the scoreless run first in the bottom of the third as with two outs Chris Aldridge laced a single to right field to score Jacob Countiss and Brock Harris who reached on a walk and fielders choice respectively.
  • Through the first four innings, Chris Perry had only allowed one walk to Jon Daniszewski in the second inning.  He was finally touched for a pair of hits in the fifth as Andrew Rascoe broke up the no-hit bid with a one-out single up the middle.  Timothy Anderson forced him out with a ground out before Adam Volkernick stopped the shutout with a run-scoring double.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Builders answered with two more runs as with one out Christian Burton drilled a double to center-field and Aldridge followed with a walk.  Brian Belvin followed with a sacrifice fly to score Burton and allow Aldridge to move to second.  Lee Rossi then smacked a single up the middle to score Aldridge for a 4-1 lead.
  • Perry closed out his nights work in the sixth after allowing a single to leadoff hitter Owen Kimmel he got a pair of fly outs.  Zach Harding finished off the top of the sixth by throwing out Kimmel trying to steal.
  • In the seventh, Sam Massie came in and only allowed one base runner on an error.  That was quickly erased as Massie picked him off of first.  A groundball to third ended the game and gave the hosts a 3-1 win.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

  • No one for either team had multiple hits as seven Builders had hits along with three SeaWolves.
