IN BRIEF: The Apprentice School dropped a 10-2 decision to Christopher Newport University on Sunday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium.
HOW THEY SCORED

• The Captains got on the board first with a run in the top of the second inning as Brandon Walker singled and went to second on an error before scoring on a Josh Moore double.
• Apprentice School responded with a pair of runs in its half of the second as Mike Brumfield reached on an error and scored on a Jacob Countiss triple to left center.  He later scored on a passed ball to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
• CNU put a run up to tie it in the top of the third as with two outs, Craig Johnson singled and went to second on a passed ball before scoring on a Tyler Wood single.
• They broke the game open with a six-run fourth as Taylor Loudon singled in a run and they took advantage of some defensive miscues as the Captains took a commanding 8-2 lead. The Captains put up another run in the fifth on a bases loaded walk to Johnson for a 9-2 advantage.
• In the ninth, the Captains put up the final run as Alexander Crittenden's groundout scored Walker who started the inning with a single for the final run.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

• Apprentice School was held to three hits as Brock Harris had a double in the first inning and Mark Labrador had a single in the eight to go along with the RBI triple from Countiss.
• Taylor Gomer took the loss throwing 3.1 innings allowing seven hits, eight runs, two earned runs and striking out four.  Sam Massie came in and threw the final 5.2 innings with five hits, two runs and also striking out four.
• CNU had five players with a pair of hits each as they out-hit the Builders 12-3.  Joe Burris took the win throwing seven innings and allowing two hits, two runs and striking out six.  Caleb Myers and Justin Garber threw an inning apiece to close out the game.
