IN BRIEF:  Jordan Cowles drove in two runs with a double in the fourth and a solo home run in the seventh from Christian Burton provided insurance in a 4-1 Apprentice School win over Penn State Greater Allegheny in the third place game at the USCAA Championships Saturday.

HOW THEY SCORED

• The Builders scored a run in the top of the second inning as with two outs Cowles reached on an error and went to second on a Thomas Richardson single.  Brock Harris followed by smacking a single to left center for a single to score Cowles and give the Builders a 1-0 lead.
•  In the fourth, the Builders pushed two across as Jacob Countiss opened with a double and went to third as Collin Wilber reached on an error.  Pinch-runner Jordan Wright came in for Wilber and stole second before Cowles laced a double to left-center for a 3-0 Apprentice School lead.
• Penn State Greater Allegheny pushed a run across in the bottom of the fifth as Francisco Del Rio singled to left center and was replaced by pinch-runner John Nusser who advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt.  Mark Hollis followed with a single to center to plate Nusser for a 3-1 Apprentice School advantage.
• In the seventh inning the Builders added an insurance run as Christian Burton took the first pitch for a one-out solo home run for a 4-1 lead.

BEHIND THE BOXSCORE

• Four Builders had two hits each as Harris, Lee Rossi, Countiss and Cowles were all 2-for-4.  Harris drove in one run, while Cowles had two as the Builders out-hit Penn State Greater Allegheny 13-7.
• Taylor Gomer picked up the win for the Builders throwing 5.2 innings and allowing seven hits with five strikeouts to put his record at 8-3 on the year.  Sam Massie struck out one in 1.1 innings to earn his sixth save of the year and second of the tournament.
• For Penn State Greater Allegheny, Gianmarco Concepcion was 2-for-3 as the lone Lion with more than one hit.  Luke Padezan took the loss throwing three innings and allowing five hits and two runs to put his season record at 4-1.

The Builders  face top-seeded Illinois Tech in the championship game and must win twice.
