EVENT: 2016 USCAA Small College World Series
LOCATION: East Field Park - Glens Falls, New York
The 2016 United States Collegiate Athletic Association Small College World Series kicked off on Sunday afternoon with its annual Awards Banquet and four Builders were recognized for their success on the field as well as the classroom.
On the field, two Builders were named to the first team USCAA All-American team in Taylor Gomer and Mike Brumfield. Senior Taylor Gomer, a insulator apprentice from Smithfield, earned his first All-American honor after leading the Builders with a 5-3 record, 2.18 ERA and 70 strikeouts.
Mike Brumfield, a shipfitter apprentice from Toano, also earned his first All-American honor with an overall record of 4-1, a 3.41 ERA and 64 strikeouts. He also third on the team with .319 BA with 30 hits and 29 RBIs.
Mark Labrador, a pipefitter apprentice from Casselberry, FL, was named to the second team USCAA All-American team for the second year in a row. Labrador is second on the team with a .334 BA, with 34 hits and 25 RBIs.
Also being recognized on Sunday was the USCAA All-Academic team in which Johnathan Long was honored for having a 3.5 grade point average or higher.
Last night the USCAA hosted its annual home run derby at East Field Park where Corbin Hunt, an outside machinist apprentice from Rowland, NC won the event.
The Builders will play Robert Morris University-Peoria tonight at 9 p.m. Live stats will be provided.
