Builders Lose Heartbreaker to Castleton

Builders Lose Heartbreaker to Castleton

IN BRIEF: In the top of the 1st the Builders loaded the bases on singles from James Williams, Maxwell Burcham and Thomas Packert, but the Spartans turned a double play to stop the threat. The action from that point on was scarce as Paul Jones and Garrett Moran went into a pitchers dual. The Builders were able to put two runners on in the bottom of the 3rd but were unable to bring the runners around. The Spartans broke the tie on a solo homerun in the top of the 4th to take a 1 to 0 lead. The Builders quickly responded in the bottom of the 4th with an RBI single from Hunter Riss to tie the game at 1 to 1. In the bottom of the 5th, back to back doubles from Gevin Nixon and Maxwell Burcham would give the Builders a 2 to 1 lead and would knock the Castleton starter out of the game. The score would remain 2 to 1 until the top of the 7th when the Spartans would push across their second run of the game, tying the contest up at 2 to 2. Paul Jones pitched 7 strong innings for the Builders, giving up 7 hits and striking out 8 batters, and giving up 2 runs. Tyler Winegrad would enter the game in the 8th for the Builders. Winegrad gave up one hit in the inning but worked around it to retire the Spartans and keep the game tied at 2. Winegrad would stay in the game in the 9th and the Spartans would scratch across 2 runs. The Spartans held on in the 9th to earn a 4 to 2 win over the Builders.
