Builders Win Game 2 Against Castleton

IN BRIEF: The Builders would take game 2 against Castleton by a score of 8 to 6. Clay O'Brien picked up his second win of the season and Thomas Packert picked up his fourth save for the Builders. 

 It was the Spartans who would strike first in this one, scoring 3 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. The Builders wasted no time on a response, as they would score 1 run in the bottom of the 2nd on a sacrafice fly from Dalton Dye. Cody Hendrickson reached on an error and would quickly advance to second base on a balk. A single from Brent Byrum advanced Hendrickson to third before the Dalton Dye sacrafice fly gave the Builders their first run of the game. In the bottom of the 3rd the Builders would capitalize of errors and score 4 runs in the inning. Gevin Nixon got things started with a single to center field. Maxwell Burcham then hit a grounder to short stop that should have been a double play, but left the Builders with two runners on and one out. Singles from Thomas Packert and Cody Hendrickson would give the Builders three runs in the inning. Dalton Dye then doubled to right scoring one more run and giving the Builders a 5 to 3 lead. 

In the 5th the Spartans would get one back and cut the Builder lead to 5 to 4. There was no action in this one until the top of the 7th when the Spartans tied the game at 5. This ended Luke Schanbacks day. Schanback had a quality start, scattering 9 hits across 6 innings and giving up 5 runs. Clay O'Brien entered in relief in the top of the 7th. With the go ahead run on second base, O'Brien retired three straight Spartans to keep the game tied at 5 to 5. In the bottom of the 7th, James Williams led off the inning with a single to right. A double from Maxwell Burcham gave the Builders a 6 to 5 lead. Burcham advanced to third on a wild pitch and a sacrafice fly from Thomas Packert stretched the Builder lead to 7 to 5. With 2 outs in the inning, back to back shots from Cody Hendrickson and Brent Byrum extended the lead to 8 to 5. Clay O'Brien stayed in the game for the 8th inning and retired the Spartans in order. O'Brien would retire one batter in the 9th and leave two runners on before Thomas Packert would come into pitch. Packert would strike out the first batter he faced but then give up a hit and the Spartans cut the Builder lead to 8 to 6. The threat would be short lived as Packert would strike out the next batter looking and the Builders picked up an 8 to 6 win.
