Hendrickson's Grand Slam Powers Builders Past Ducks

IN BRIEF: In the top of the 2nd the Ducks threatened to score with runners on the corners, but Andrew Castine put the threat to bed for the second straight inning. Castine recorded a strikeout and a pop up to get out of the early jam. With the score tied at 0 to 0 in the bottom of the 3rd, Brian Fritzinger struck for the first hit of the game for the Builders. Singles by Mark Watts and Gevin Nixon loaded the bases for the Builders with one out. Maxwell Burcham hit into a fielder's choice but Brian Fritzinger scored on the play and the Builders took a 1 to 0 lead. The Builders continued the threat when Thomas Packert walked to load the bases again. The walk would end the day for Faria, the Ducks starter. Cody Hendrickson came to face the Ducks reliever and sent the second pitch of the at bat flying to deep left field. The ball hit the score board and Hendrickson cleared the bases witha Grand Slam, giving the Builders a 5 to 0 lead. 

With the score still 5 to 1, the Ducks would place runners on 1st and 2nd with one away in the 6th. Andrew Castine would once again get out of the jam with a 6-4-3 double play. The Builders extended their lead to 6 to 1 in the bottom of the 6th when they would score on an error by the Ducks shortstop. Much of the same in the bottom of the 7th, the Builders capitalized on another Ducks error to take a 7 to 2 lead. The Builders would add two more in the bottom of the 8th to extend their lead to 9 to 2.

Andrew Castine would get the start for the Builders. Castine turned in his best start of the season, going 8 innings, scattering 10 hits, giving up 2 runs and striking out 10 batters. Castine worked himself out of jams all day long, and found success by throwing lots of strikes. Castine did not walk any batters on the day. Thomas Packert entered the game in the 9th on the mound and made quick work of the Ducks. The Builders won their final game of the weekend by a score of 9 to 2.
