Builders Sweep Cardinals in Double Header

GAME 1

IN BRIEF: The Builders took Game 1 of the twinbill against Stratford University by a score of 12 to 8. This matchup featured the top ranked Builders and the 8th ranked Cardinals. The Builders imroved to 26-7 on the season with the Game 1 win.

The Builders offense has been on fire as of late and things were no different in this game. Cody Hendrickson would get things started in the top of the 1st, his RBI single scored Lou Picolo and the Builders would take a 1 to 0 lead. Brent Byrum would continue the rally with a sacrifice fly that scored Gevin Nixon. The Builders held a 2 to 0 lead after the 1st inning. In the bottom of the 2nd, the Builders would keep the line moving and bring four runs across the plate. An RBI double from Hunter Riss scored Jake Day and Gevin Nixon would pick up his fellow infielder with an RBI single that scored Riss. A single from Cody Hendrickson and a double from Brent Byrum would extend the Builder lead to 6 to 0.

The Cardinals offense had a solid day at the plate scoring 8 runs, but it was not enough to hang with the Builders. William Capps picked up this win in 3.2 innings pitched in relief. Capps would strike out three batters and give up one earned run on the afternoon. Tyler Winegrad entered the game in the 7th and held the Cardinals scoreless. The Builders went on to score six more runs in this game and defeat the 8th ranked Cardinals by a score of 12 to 8.

BEHIND THE BOX SCORE:

GAME 2

IN BRIEF: The Builders took care of business in Game 2 and defeated the Cardinals by a score of 16 to 1. The Builders improve to 27-7 on the season and have won a remarkable 17 games in a row. The Builders swept the 8th ranked Cardinals in today's double header.

The Builders scored early and often to win their 17th straight game of the season. The Builders took an early 2 to 0 lead at the end of the 1st. With runners on second and third, Cody Hendrickson laced a single that scored Gevin Nixon and Maxwell Burcham advanced to third after doubling earlier in the inning. Burcham would score on the following play when Brent Byrum hit a sacrifice fly to center field. 

Fast forward to the bottom of the 5th and the Builders led this game by a score of 10 to 0. With one out and the bases loaded, Braden Lambert launched a bases clearing triple to right center. a couple of walks and hit by pitches would load the bases again for the Builders. A walk from Gevin Nixon would score Braden Lambert, and Maxwell Burcham would single to add two more runs, extending the lead to 16 to 0.

Andrew Castine turned in a terrific day on the mound. The Builder started lasted 5 innings, scattered 5 hits, and gave up no runs to earn his third win of the season. Castine would make any pitching coach happy as he continued to work and get ground ball outs. John Walton would get an inning of work in the 6th and give up one run. Taylor Hampton would come in to close out the game and worked around a hit to end the game on a 4-6-3 double play.
