Builders Take Down Trojans

IN BRIEF: Friends, Family and Supporters of Builder athletics gathered to celebrate Head Coach Bryan Cave's 700th Career win. Cave reached this acomplishment in a game earlier this season, it was fitting that the Builders defeated Virginia State in this game to extend the team winning streak to 18 games.

Paul Jones made his 8th start of the season and improved to a 7-0 record. The Trojoans took an early 2 to 0 lead in the top of the 2nd but the Builders fired back quickly in the bottom half of the inning. With the bases loaded, Braden Lambert hit a double that would bring everybody home and the Builders took a 3 to 2 lead. The Builders weren't done yet, Gevin Nixon singled in the inning to score Braden Lambert. Paul Jones settled down after the 2 early runs to pitch four straight scoreless innings. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Trojans looked to be back in business. Paul Jones put an end to the Trojan threat with 2 strikeouts and a lineout. Jones would finish the day with 6 innings pitched, 2 runs, and 7 strikeouts. Luke Schanback would pitch the 7th inning and Tyler Winegrad would pitch the 8th inning. With the Trojans attempting a comeback in the 8th, Winegrad would leave the Trojan runner stranded at 3rd base with back to back strikeouts to end the inning

Fast forward to the bottom of the 7th and the Builders still leading 4 to 2. With one out in the inning, Gevin Nixon would get things started with a single. Nixon would advance to second on a Maxwell Burcham walk before Cody Hendrickson would load the bases with a single. Brent Byrum would then hit a 2 RBI single and the Builders extended their lead to 6 to 2. The Trojans pitcher would balk home another run before the Builders would add one more on a walk. After 7 innings of play, the Builders would lead by a score of 8 to 2. The Trojans added a run in the 8th, but the Builders would get that run back on a sacrifice fly from Cody Hendrickson. With a 6 run lead in the 9th, the Builders turned to closer Thomas Packert. Packert made quick work of the Trojans and struke out three straight batters to end the game. The Builders improved to 28-7 on the season with the win.
