Builders Defeat Hurricanes, Win 20th Straight Game

IN BRIEF: It was a warm day in Franklin, Virginia and the Builders were back in action after a whole week off. Luke Schanback took the mound for the Builders and improved to 6-0 on the season as the Builders defeated the Hurricanes by a score of 14 to 3. The game was called early after 5 innings due to a mercy rule.

The Builders took an early lead in the top of the 2nd when Brent Byrum scored on an RBI single from Brian Fritzinger. Fritzinger would have a big day at the plate for the Builders. In the top of the 3rd, a 2 RBI single from Dalton Dye extended the lead to 3 to 0. The floodgates opened when Brian Fritzinger deposited his first home run of the year over the tall left field fence. Braden Lambert followed suit with a homerun of his own to left center. Lou Picolo then scored on an RBI single from Maxwell Burcham. The Builders would lead 6 to 0 after 3 innings of play. 

In the top of the 4th, the Builders continued their dominance and plated 7 runs in the inning. The Builders forced the Hurricanes to use 7 pitchers in the contest. After 4 innings, the Builders led by a score of 14 to 0. The Hurricanes would get three runs in the 5th to cut the lead to 14 to 3, but both teams decided to call the game after 5 innings.

Luke Schanback continued his great season by going 4 strong innings, giving up 2 hits and 0 runs. The Hurricanes threatened early but Schanback induced a timely double plays to get out of the 1st inning jam. Clay O'Brien and Paul Jones tag teamed the 5th inning on the mound. 

With today's win, the Builders have now won 20 games in a row. They are 30-7 on the season and have two more regular season games remaining before heading to Dubois, Pennsylvania on their quest for another USCAA National Championship.
